This is a wonderful plated dessert and the first true, professional style plated dessert I have done for the blog. Why? Because it takes time to learn and basic skills need to be developed before attempting such a dessert. Plus, this basic plated dessert has seven components – seven! Yes, I realize thats quite a few but I will explain how make each one and provide a schedule to make a dessert like this.
It’s February and that means all things heart shaped, chocolate, and in varying shades of pink and red! Let’s kick off our Valentine’s Day desserts with these wonderful dacquoise hearts. They are light, delicious, and, most importantly, can be made in advance and then assembled just before serving.
Coconuts are everywhere in Vietnam. You can buy them whole in stores or on the street for a quick refreshing drink. This moist, delicious cake uses coconut cream and dried coconut to give a deep rich flavor. Paired with caramelized fruits and kaffir lime, this coconut pound cake makes for a wonderful treat.

Puddings in England are any dessert – except for cookies which are called biscuits! Confusing, I know. So, these “puddings” are actually little date cakes with a caramel like glaze. These sticky date puddings are perfect with a cup of tea on cold winter evening. A perfect British dessert for trimming the tree!
If you are looking for a dessert other than pie for your Thanksgiving table this is a superb choice. The batter can be made in advance and then the steamed pumpkin puddings can bake while you are enjoying the turkey. A simple caramel sauce, whipped cream, and a bit of our cranberry jam makes for a lovely presentation that takes no time to assemble.
